Dan,
Thanks for writing in. At this point there is no inexpensive way to do what you want to do. Your first option would be a Gasboy CFN II Card system with a network interface to your oil company (Exxon, BP, Shell...) or a generic network (Bypass). The hardware will set you back about $7000 plus installation and support. The nice thing about this system is you can also issue your own proprietary card as well. This would allow you to set-up, track and bill your own customers and well as handling transient business.
The other option would look just like a retail c-store set-up. You would have a card reader at the dispenser tied to a pump interface. The interface would be tied to a Verifone Ruby P.O.S. terminal. The Ruby does three things; One, it is a cash register. Two, it is a fuel controller. Three, it is the network interface for debit/credit card processing. This system would sell for around $12,000 plus installation and support. Because of installation and support, these systems should be purchased from a local PEI distributor. Check your yellow pages under “Service Station Equipment” or visit http://www.peinet.org.
Best regards,
Byron Benford
